The seedling reaction type is 1-2 to 2CN with race 8 culture ND8702, depending on environmental conditions. Egypt 4 is susceptible to most isolates of Puccinia hordei (2, 3, 4), but a resistant reaction to a few isolates is reported (1, 3, 4). Resistance is expressed better at 15C than at 20C, and the infection type observed in heterozygotes is often intermediate between those of the parents.
